This is one fast and beautiful capture especially if you manually focus to avoid the camera or lens to hunt for this bird? Brilliant focus, well done.

answer to Sylvia Hardy : TNX ..I had to use manual , sigma 100m on canon 20D can't produce enough speed on servo focus so there is no point to even try it( he is too quick ) . I focused on the spot where he suposed to land , shoot burst and got lucky :-) ... from that burst I got 2 sharp and 3 out of focus images .. luckly this one was perfect :-) ... my aquipment is mostly for studio and fashion shootings , Mamiya , canon 5D etc. animals are my hobby ..

I like the photo but it has already been published in National Geographic and other magazines and has won several international awards and according to the rules of this competition it is not eligible to compete.Am I right?

rules as I understand are NO PHOTO MAGAZINES ... this one was not in any photo magazine anywhere ( national geographic is not photo magazine as I understand ) ... and what awards ??? plz let me now so I can colect them :-)))) .. so far picture was posted on few photo sites ( photosig, photo.net ) where had succes , thats all ... if that is major international award , ok you right :-))) ..

International Magazines and Awards
In June 2007 the prestigious world edition of National Geographic Magazine published Dean's photo of young bald eagle. After that, this photography was published in many daily and weekly newspapers all over the world and won several international awards.

you are one persistant guy :-) .. anyway I'm glad you visit my website . this picture won on several contests on internet websites like phot.net , betterphoto etc. but not one award with money or material prize of any kind involved or any award out of the internet ( materialy I didn't get anything what so ever just fame :-)... in rules they say "major international awards" ... I don't think that photo sites are "major internetional awards"... Line you copy/pasted I put on my web site to brag myself a little , I'm very proud of this picture ...If judges ruled that this picture is not qualifyed to compete , fine with me , its not the end of the world :-) ... anyhow , TNX to you to make me clearify this to all ....

Whats really great about this shot is the pin sharp face which is full of menace well done. Did you need a tripod to get it?

no ... with 1/2000 sec tripod was not nessessary . and i was laying on the ground so camera was very steady , no problem there . Problem was focusing because he is very fast . i shot a burst and got lucky to have this one in the focus , from 6 shots in this burst 2 are sharp and 4 out of focus completly ...

I don't see why you can't enter this picture as far as I can make out it would be nice if you actually won a cash prize as you stated you haven't ever won a cash prize previously then why shouldn't you be allowed to now? Having this AMAZING photograph published so many times & having awards must make you so proud and whatever the judges decide on either way you are the WINNER in my eyes, Congratulations! I would appreciate it if you could be honest in your comments on some of my pictures being ever so an amateur photographer, thanks.

Great shot. As a happy amateur I was quite pleased with my bird action shots until I saw this one. But still I suppose at least I can say my pictures were in the same competition as a National Geographic cover shot!
